As you know, I left my PhD program in Hispanic linguistics last year and started my own business. I have been mainly tutoring and teaching private lessons to make a living, but my dream is to be a writer. I know, right…”Condolences!” As you know I’m super into other languages and cultures, so I have started writing some blogs and other projects. I am finally brave enough to start trying to do this and making money at it. I need to get better at publicizing and monetizing what I do, but for now I have started with this.
The reason I’m writing about this today is because I have just launched a Kickstarter Crowdfunding Project. I’m not asking you for a donation, I’m just asking for your help. I launched on Friday night (amateur move), but over the weekend I have actually gotten some donors (even one I don’t know personally! Haha). I have been reading all weekend about how to get more traffic and more donations and everyone says my success on kickstarter is almost entirely due to my own personal network. I hope you don’t mind that I’m emailing you, but I want to do absolutely everything in my power to make this project a success. Also, it’s nice to catch up with everyone.
I wanted to see if you would mind writing something about me on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, your blog or to your email contacts. If you know of anyone who works in journalism, PR, international relations, writing, publishing, academia or the arts that you think might be interested in this project, I would greatly appreciate your help in putting me in contact with them. Feel free to just forward this email. Please also share this with anyone you know of Albanian descent. This includes people from Kosovo, and some parts of Greece, Macedonia and Montenegro.
I understand this project may seem a bit obscure to you and I understand if the topic of Albania does not interest you whatsoever. However, maybe it will interest you or someone you know for another reason. It interests me because Albania is a forgotten land, unspoiled by tourism, forgotten by capitalism and used by Europe for more than 500 years. The stories of its people are remarkable and deserve to be understood by English speakers. Whether you believe in international story-telling or the blind confidence of a woman who is determined to make it as an investigative writer, your support is vital for my success. Please spread the work however you can. Even just clicking on my page and watching my video all the way through will help kickstarter take notice of me and they might use me as a “project of the day”, which would totally ensure that I make my goal. I just need to create the biggest buzz I can about this, so I can reach as many people as possible.
I am trying to keep my email short (fail!), but if you are interested in more information, please read some of the articles I’ve written on Albania. I’ve put the links/information you need below.
Thank you so much for your help and support. This is a humbling experience and I appreciate the opportunity to reach out individually to everyone I know and love. It makes me realize how amazing my network of friends, family and colleagues is. Have a great week!
I have written an article about Albania’s celebration of 100 years of independence, an article about Albanian hip hop and a more in depth article of why I am so interested in Albania. Feel free to check them out. The project website is: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/albanianvoices/project-albanian-voices or follow us on Twitter @projalbavoices
