I know it’s been a while since I published new content on the blog, but that was because I took some time to write a book and dabble in making better webpages. I’m still working on this site, but I wanted to keep you updated with cool, clickable content meanwhile.
What a better way to come back from my almost one-year absence then by highlighting a great duo who also made a come-back recently.
Outkast played their first set since 2002 in the United States on April 11th, the opening day of this year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival.
See below for their entire set:
According to NME:
Andre 3000 and Big Boi’s show drew a massive crowd to the Main Stage of the festival, but also mixed reactions, as they played a set relatively low on production values and featuring a host of strange props, including a taxidermy polar bear, a small table and chairs, an Atlanta street sign and a bicycle. The duo were backed by a small band, including a couple of brass players and backing singers. Arriving onstage at 11.30pm, local time, the duo opened up their set with ‘BOB (Bombs Over Baghdad)’ from 2000’s ‘Stankonia’. Their hour and a half long set – which was cut short due to time constraints, making them unable to play the finale of ‘The Whole World’ – also featured ‘Hey Ya’ and ‘Ms Jackson’, as well as ‘Rosa Parks’ from 1998’s ‘Aquemini’ plus ‘Roses’ and ‘Ghetto Musick’ from 2003’s ‘Speakerboxxx/The Love Below’. In the middle of the set, Janelle Monae joined the duo onstage to perform her own track ‘Tightrope’, on which Big Boi was a featured guest star. “I wanna say that this is my favourite group in the world, and what you’re witnessing right now is history,” said Monáe as she left the stage. Other guests included singer Sleepy Brown and rapper Future.
The songs in this set are:
